Convert Photo to 3D & import to OnShape

I am working on designing some wrought iron projects where there are very few 3D CAD models available, so I thought I should be able to convert some photos to 3D.
There are a lot of Photo(s) -to- 3D converters available & I have been able to get few of them to work & export to .obj file. However, when I import the obj file to OnShape there are always errors - "contains faulty topology". Is there a way to make this work?
