I use the free version of Onshape where projects can only be saved on the Onshape cloud
I would like to modify my project without having to start it again but keeping the previous version intact
How to do this?

A few different ways to achieve a similar effect (and there are no differences with the paid licenses):
-Duplicate the entire document.
-Duplicate just a single part studio within the existing document.
-Make a branch within the existing document.
Make a version and keep on modeling. That's the power of the history. If the previous version needs to evolve, you can branch it to create two (or more) workspaces.
