Trouble lofting between two airfoil splines

barry_foustbarry_foust Member Posts: 4

I'm trying to loft between the two airfoils at the end of this wing using splines from the wing planform sketch. It isn't working. I'm trying to transition from Fusion to OnShape, so any advice on figuring out what's wrong would be appreciated.

Your inboard profile (Profile generator 2) is set to be a single spline - did you mean to do this. I always find it is best to split into upper and lower splines. Doing so allowed me to create two lofts (upper and lower)

Also, regarding the guide curves (which I did not use in the above test) - they currently do not intersect the profiles. This will be a requirement if you intend to use them in the loft.

Here is the curvature analysis of the upper loft - I see that (typical for Profile generator) there is a bit of noise that may or may not cause you problems later. This Custom feature might be worth trying… https://cad.onshape.com/documents/33795c7f9b39612da14ee99a/v/5f0353863c39e4e7468cf450/e/7d0549e4402995ffee27b9c5

Great information. I didn't realize that profile generator I used didn't align the chord line with the points. I definitely want to use the leading and trailing edges in the lofts to get the shape I want. I'm going to try the profile generator you recommended. Thanks!
