Pattern on curved surface maintaining pattern's shape

I am trying to replicate something similar to the lamp shown in the photo attached.

I have a problem understanding how to produce the holes in the curved surface maintaining the pattern proportions.

I tried to use the wrap tool but the wrapped shapes can't be selected for extrude-remove

I made some tests here but without success.
