The simplest sketches are marked as 'not fully defined'

hansrudolfhansrudolf Member Posts: 52 ✭✭

This problem shows up since a couple of days. I tried a circle and a rectangle (dimensioned or not dimensioned) and get the remark 'Sketch 1 is not fully defined'.

An extrusion seems to work nonetheless, but I would like to know how to get rid of that remark.

Kind regards,

Hans

The most common thing that beginners miss, is constraining, or dimension to the origin. Try to get in the habit of using the origin as the starting point for your sketches if possible - if this can't be done then you will need to dimension or constrain your sketch geometry to the origin (or other fixed geometry, if it exists). The origin is the only thing that Onshape recognizes as being fixed in 3D space when you start a new sketch (you have to use it, if you want to fully define a sketch).

It means something in your sketch is still blue indicating it can be dragged around. This matters for model stability, so that if you change something upstream from that sketch it will behave in a predictable way. It'll still let you model with unconstrained sketches, but it's typically poor practice to do so.
