Extrude cut text into a curved surface of a part?
I have been trying to do this for a minute and cannot figure it out. I have a part that has a curved surface and I have projected some text onto this surface. Now I want to extrude cut into this surface a particular depth so the text can be seen on the part but I don't see how to do this easily.
I could cut through the whole surface and then try to fill in the empty spaces with fill, but that leaves a infinitely thin surface. I don't want to cut through the whole surface just some depth into it so that the depth is the same throughout the text on that curved surface. This seems like it should be easy but I don't see how to do this.
Could someone give me some guidance here, thanks.

I've used up to face with an offset so the text 'back face' follows the contour of the sphere but you could use 'blind' and get a back surface that is flat to the plane it was created on
