How would one make these twists on twists?
I want to make a wire rope which is looped and can not get it to work.
Would anybody be able to help with suggestions on how best to achieve the below-desired look?
My basic initial models is: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/1fab790cc9a50cab160f8eea/w/cc723d8a2fe376b314e29298/e/4f144516d5fd3aa793602a82?renderMode=0&uiState=6731f3440623f717cfdcb3fb

Here is an approximation to get started. I'll leave you to figure out exact wire size and twists as I have to run.

I would use the 3d spiral FS.
However, are you sure you need model every strand in there? That will make your model really slow and I'm not sure what the value is…
I have modeled a safety wire for a bolt pattern before, and although I got it to work, it was a real pain - and didn't really add that much to the overall detail. Got to agree with Eric on this one - that level of detail is going to be a performance hit. As an abstract problem, it does pose some interesting questions.
Thank you for the input. Simply put, no I do not need to model every strand. I just ended up going down a rabbit hole.
The overall intent was to get the most accurate model to be rendered out which will show a close-up of a 7x7 stainless steel wire rope.
I'm with Eric. Unless you're wanting a pretty picture for a sales brochure it's a lot of processing for what you get.
My sample was out of curiosity just to see if I could make it work.
