How to make a scalloped cone?

easton_harriseaston_harris Member Posts: 2

I'm trying to make a cone with a scalloped edge. Effectively drafting the cylinder on the right in the picture below into the shape of the cone on the left. When trying to draft the cylinder, the scalloped edges prevent the draft from working properly. Is there a better way to achieve this? Thanks

Depending on what you want the scallops for, I would likely use a loft, or boundary surface for one scallop and then pattern that. The smaller end can just take the shape you have at the larger end and scale it. How did you create the scallop shape to begin with?

I wrote a feature a while back called Shapes for making things like that scalloped profile. Here's an example of a cone using two of those and a loft.

It's a little less relevant now that you can use variables to drive a sketch pattern, but it's still handy every once in a while as an Industrial Designer. Here's a little gif demo.
