How do make this point a midpoint between outer edge and centre line?

Martin_29Martin_29 Member Posts: 9

Hi, I'm sure this is very simple when you know how but I can't seem to work out how to dimension or select the point on the construction line to be midpoint between the outer edge and the centre line. Ive have tried it as smart dimensioning but that doesnt make it the midpoint and I cant seem to select it as the midpoint?

Is there an easy way please?

I know its sumple on here as it is a quarter of 60 but what if I didnt know or have that dimension?

So one way would be to create a variable X=60 and put X where it says 60 now, and dimension the point at X/4.

but more likely you're looking for this answer:
Onshape allows constraining to the midpoint of a line… not to the quarter points…
So if you want to constrain to a quarter point, split that vertical line in half. Make the two halves equal length or have them constrained by the horizontal centerline. Then constrain the point to the midpoint of the top line.

Or, put a point at the red 1, another at the intersection of the horizontal construction line and the vertical construction line. Put third point on the vertical construction line somewhere between those two. Select all three making sure you select the middle one last and apply a Midpoint constraint to the selection. - Scotty

Thank you for the feedback. You're right, I was trying to create a quarter point rather than midpoint which is why I couldnt get what I thought would work to actually work.

    Thanks for the input..

Another way to set up quarter points using an array. Can be used for any subdivisions of the section. 1/8, 1/4. 1/3 etc.

Number of points plus 1. delete spacing dimension and make last point coincident.

    Simple change of divisions.
