I'm trying to create a circle with "waves" extruding from it, the top model is what it should look like if the circle was stretched out into a line. I can get the general shape of it, but the inside and outside of the low-valleys have different heights and i do not know how to solve it. I tried using separate planes, revolution, and making lots of extrusions and removals on the surface of the circle, but nothing seems to work.

@EvanReese has a handy featurescript called Shapes for generating things like this automagically.
Oliver's right. If it's something that my Shapes feature can already handle, then roll with that for convenience. You may want to pair it with my Selection Fillet feature so that you can change the number of waves and not have to manually select new edges if they are created. Here's an example. If you need a different profile, I'd sketch just one pie wedge of the pattern and make the wedge's angle =
365*degree/#number
, then you can make a circular pattern of that either in the sketch or as a circular pattern feature.I don't know what exactly what shape you wanted but I interpreted the instructions as such:
make a variable set to the desired diameter
make a sketch and make a circle with the variable diameter. make a smaller circle with whatever size desired
extrude circle with center bore
make a sketch on a plane perpendicular to the plane of the original sketch
make a midpoint line using the origin for the middle, and define the length to be #diameter*pi/[number of teeth].(it will be easier if you set the line to coincident to the line of the original cylinder.)
make whatever desired shape for the teeth to be with the only requirement being to make the ends of the teeth profile coincident with the original defined line.
make sure the teeth will be manifold when wrapped.( easiest to add a rectangle below with parallel sides coincident to the original line.)
Finally! Use the wrap tool to "wrap" the sketch around the cylinder. Select "solid" and "New" to create a tooth. set the thickness to be the thickness of the original cylinder .
use circular pattern to make the rest of the teeth.(selecting add and the original cylinder and the original tooth to remove some Boolean steps.)
Now you got what I hope you wanted.
