How to create flute with varying top fillet

os_tnt_mrnos_tnt_mrn Member Posts: 8

I'm new, so I've probably approached this completely incorrectly, feel free to comment. But the specific issue I'm trying to figure out is how to get the top of the ridge, between the flutes to change their thickness. For example if I was able to change the fillet radius along it's length, it would accomplish that. Do I have to create a profile start and end, then model a surface between the two, or how best to accomplish this.

There is an image in the file hopefully you can see how near the bottom of the flutes the top edge is down 2.5mm compared to about 5.5mm near the top.

I think using a sweep to create the flutes might not work in this case. Try a loft between two slightly different profiles. Something like this:

Don't have time to try it now. but maybe wrap a single flute and apply a feature pattern for the rest.

Got a chance to try the wrap. works but can be fidgety with the full round fillets in this object.

Thanks for the response. I will have to experiment with wrap, I would not have thought of using that. Can you share the link so I can see it better?

Thanks Matt for that, I've not used the 3D fit spline tool before, so that could be helpful. In your example the if I'm seeing this correct the flutes themselves are changing their diameter, but the original I'm trying to create has a consistent diameter. Only the top ridge changes. But what I learned in the responses is that you can in fact do a variable fillet (hadn't even noticed that option) so will see if I can use this alone to accomplish my goal.
