Placing Derived Parts in an Assembly

alex_drozdalex_drozd Member Posts: 6

I want to use a Master Sketch to drive an assembly, so I make 3 individual derived parts using a Master Sketch. Now I insert them into an assembly. I know usually I would fix one, and position the others with mates. But wouldn't using mates in this case override the benefits of the Master Sketch?

When I make changes to the spacing between the parts in the Master Sketch, the Assembly doesn't reflect it because the Mates are holding their position.

The way I got it to work in the Assembly was to insert the parts and applying the Fix command to all 3 parts without any mates. Now when I change the distance between the parts, they follow the Master Sketch correctly even though I get a warning saying I have too many Fixed parts.

Am I missing something here, or is Fixing all the parts the correct workflow in order to replicate the Master Sketch?

You can insert your master sketch into the assembly and mate the parts to it.

Or add explicit mate connectors to the parts (based on a common reference on the master sketch)
