Extruding a half-round shape

Hello community,

I'm new to OnShape and not even that experienced of a modeler to begin with. I'm looking for help on how to either extrude in a curved shape, or extrude around a curved shape. Specifically, I'm working on a Gridfinity AA battery tray where the batteries lay flat. I'd like each battery to be in it's own half-round "cradle", rather than just rolling around in the tray. I've spent a quite a while trying to figure out how to extrude a curved shape into the tray. Having given up on that, I moved to modeling batteries in the tray and trying to extrude the bottom of the tray up around them. I haven't been able to make that work either, it just extrudes through the batteries. Also, I don't actually want to print batteries, so I'm not sure how I'd remove them even if I did get that extrusion to work.

Current state of my model is I have batteries extruded as individual parts, and the bottom of the tray extruded half way up the battery.

All this seems to do is extrude through the batteries, not around them. I'm pretty sure I'm not even approaching this the right way. Looking forward to some feedback to get me on the right path. At this point the learning is more of interest to me than the specific use case.

    you’re doing fine. Just use a Boolean subtraction on the tray and subtract the battery shape from the tray. If you don’t want to keep the batteries, just tick off the keep tools option in the Boolean operation
