Loft: Solid vs. Surface creates different results. Why?

If I loft something along a 3D curve, the surface option creates a diffent result than the solid option. Shouldn't they both follow the same math?

BTW: It is not the connection location that causes this. Happens with or without.

When you say it happens with or without connections, I believe that checking/unchecking "Connections" doesn't change these results, but I bet that controlling the location of the connector to be the same with both solid and surface would result in the same loft. Right now the connection is clearly rotating at the end. If you're trying to get rid of the weird narrowing in the middle, I would recommend splitting each circle in half and being explicit (if necessary) with the connectors. Also "show isocurves" will give you some clues as I expect that there's a lot of twisting going on.

The connections are different between the surface and solid.

Incidentally, you don't need to use a Custom feature to create those Mate connectors. The built-in ones will do it just fine.
