Imported DXF file results in "sketch is not fully"

louis_hamelerslouis_hamelers Member Posts: 4

I've converted an .svg file to a .dxf file with inkscape which I tried to import into Onshape, but it doesn't seem to work. I'm a bit of a noob and I've looked on this forum and elsewhere, but I cannot seem to figure out why the sketch is not fully defined and how to anchor it to the center. Any help and/or explanation would be greatly appreciated!

The document I'm struggling with: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/def77cfd80a08f6b08a760f0/w/857fe8c6a4b463f243a6cbb9/e/8e1fc230296413c497168728?renderMode=0&uiState=6797fcaf7e319925e70d4ba7

Seems to be some extra geometry associated with the sketch. When I change to individual face selection the problem goes away.

What geometry point are you looking to center. Center of hex can be used as a mate connecter for the origin of the sketch. Select a point on the sketch (you can put your own point in as your preferred locater) then transform the sketch to origin.

despite every line being fixed. none of the endpoints are coincident and therefore not fully defined. anything blue is fair game to click and drag to see how its allowed to move.

Thanks for the taking the time and the explanation! I've been able to reproduce what you've said @glen_dewsbury also thanks to the example you provided. So the boat shape seems to be extruded properly now, but the sketch of the boat itself is still "not fully defined".

What could still cause it to not be fully defined? Or is this a case of "If it works, it works"?

I did not concern myself with the unconstrained line ends when transforming the the sketch to final location since they were in the correct position. Looks like you missed the line ends in your selection set when moving the sketch.
