Inserting a new coordinate system on an imported part or relocating the origin

tuomas_juustituomas_juusti Member Posts: 2 PRO

Hey!

I imported a STEP-file (a robot tool) to Onshape to realign the mounting point (origin). The original file was built inconsistently, the part being

meters away from the origin in X,Y,Z dimensions. In Solidworks platform I would just attach a new Coordinate System to a set location and re-export the part using that new Coordinate System.

What options do I have available in Onshape to do the same correction?

Best regards,

Tuomas

You can use the Transform feature in the part studio to move everything to the desired location. You can leave it that way, and then if you reimport from the same source, in theory that same transform feature will fix it again. You can also export and reimport much like you're used to in Solidworks, although it's not really necessary.

so for a coordinate system you'd use a mate-connector. you can use that in an assembly to position it correctly.

then like S1mon said: transform (e.g. by mate connector) can help you reposition it within a part studio.
