Configured properties for infinite configuration possibilities

I have a part with multiple configuration variables set to length, width, height, material, & color. Is there a way to use configuration properties so that I can set the appearance based off of color alone, and material properties based off of material alone. instead of creating a new row for every conceivable combination of the variables?
Possibly this could be solved with feature script as well, but admittedly I don't understand how to read or write those.
