I can't get this part of a spline drawing to extrude properly

I did it before on the same drawing even and this time it says Boolean operation fails to return a valid part. I've been googling for a while and came up with nothing.
Any help is appreciated!

it's behaving very strangely. what you're doing is supposed to work.
i figured it out in the end.
from sketch9, extrude 8, a very sharp tip is created. this is on the verge of failing, but seems to still pull it off. when you add to that face, it fails anyway. If you put a teeny tiny fillet on that tip, everything works as expected.
