How to engrave into sheet metal parts

Good evening to all my fellow Onshapers.
While I understand there are advantages to Onshapes SM metal over SW, there are a couple of frustrating things.
I am trying to engrave some text, .5 mm deep into a sheet metal model. It seems as though Onshape thinks this can't be made so it extrudes all the way through.
I need this in the flat pattern. What are my options?
