Ball mate connector, move connection position

HI,
I am trying to add a ball mate to the inner section to act around the outer section (see link) which has been fixed. I can add the mate, but as they have different dimensions I am finding it hard to select the correct point so the inner section does not move on the z axis when mated, it always moves either up or down where I select on the z axis. None of the mate points align where I need. Is there a way to move the point once selcted, I tried edit but that didnt seem to work.

When applying ball mate. Hover over spherical face. Three points will show and you'll mover curser until center point is highlighted then select. Set limits and animate to see result.

Thanks. I still couldn't get the inner and outer points to align vertically but then found the move option for the mate from your drawing and adjusted it that way. Works as I want now. Thanks for the feedback.
Vertically? Hmmm
If you hover the pointer over the spherical surface 3 points will be displayed with a mate connecter on the center of the sphere. Moving to the edges of sphere will put the mate connecter to one side or the other at the center of the circle along an edge making the spheres misaligned.
