modifying shape?

Designing a storage box for bike. Got it done but decided needed a little more volume so trying to curve out the sides.
So i went back in the timeline and drew in the curves. I loft them to give shape. and move the shell command down and can shell out onside.
But when I try to shell the hole part I get an error.
Is there a reason why it will shell oneside but not the other?
Appreciate any help.
