Through holes on an extrude

jordan_lindseyjordan_lindsey Member Posts: 3 ✭✭

Hi all. I may be overthinking this or missing something really simple. I'm trying to reverse engineer a screen that goes in a granulator for plastic so I can make screens with different hole sizes.

I sketched out the shape and extruded it. My plan was to make the initial hole the size I wanted (6mm), remove it from the extrude, and then do a linear pattern. The curved part will be filled with holes. I attached a reference pic of what I'm trying to accomplish.

I tried creating a hole on a new sketch and using the wrap feature to get it on the surface, but I can't extrude remove.

Can anyone tell me how I would get a 6mm hole on the extrude and extrude-remove it through the part? Thanks!

I would try to use the sheet metal tools and pattern the holes on the flat pattern. I’m not 100% sure that will work on the bend, but I would hope so.

Hey Jordan. This document (not 'simple') uses some variables to create a holed curved screen. It's a somewhat sloppy way to attain an acceptable pattern. I'm pretty sure some equations could be used to end up with a robust pattern that has controlled, evenly spaced holes vs. tweaking the variables to get something acceptable. Nonetheless, it may be something you can use and perhaps introduce you to some tools in Onshape.

There is a Feature Script Fill Pattern that may also be of use.
