Making a hole straight through an angled face

marc_ross325marc_ross325 Member Posts: 4

I have made some star earrings to 3d print for my wife, and she wants to mount them with a small ring through a hole in the tip of one point on the side face. problem is when I use sketch and make a circle on that face and either use the hole tool or extrude remove tool it goes through at the angle of the face and not straight through so the other side of the hole is elongated and ellipse shaped. how to i do this straight through. I have tried many ways that seemed like they would work and I am not getting it to function how the videos and suggestions say. here is a snip of my issue.

marc_ross325 - Change the sketch plane of the circle profile to the vertical plane shown in your example, then subtract extrude symmetrically (I think this is what you're after). The extrude cut is always "normal to" the sketch plane. Hope this helps.

For future reference, know that a Mate Connector can be used as a sketch plane. Once placed, it can be moved anywhere and oriented in any direction. - Scotty

Thanks I was able to use the mate connector and adjust the angle of the hole to make it straight after much guessing and trying different things.

Making a selection (like the two edges shown) brought up the highlighted information. Clicking on the Tape Measure will provide additional information. That information might eliminate some guesswork and it doesn't apply to just edges. - Scotty
