how to remove a hatch region

Hatch regions are cool. Very useful. However, it seems that once I've added a hatch region to a region, there is no way to remove it. I would expect there to be a little 'x' beside it in the list of (one) hatch regions in the "edit hatch region" pop up but there is no 'x' and no other affordance for deleting the hatching (at least that I can see)
Related, while it is possible to create a hatch region with many regions, it seems that that is just a shortcut for creating hatch regions individually for each of the regions. That is, if you then select one of the regions and pop up the "edit hatch" dialog, it just shows that one region, not the list of regions that were all hatched at the same time. This is annoying when you want to change the pattern/color for all the regions you originally hatched together.
By way of example, check out slate | layouts. Many/most of those regions where hatched at one time per color by yet a) there is no way to remove the hatching from any of them and b) editing the hatching for of the set really only edits the hatching for that one.
