stl file is a multi-shell file ?

tim_ocallaghantim_ocallaghan Member Posts: 7

i created an object and added the letter C …I made it as 2 parts and then boolean joined them. Then in the creality slicer I colored the C in a different color. When I print the object..the C does not print.

They told me that the stl file has a multi-shell. I think i confirmed this in meshlabs per chatgpt instructions.

I don't know how to do this any differently in onshape. Is this a quirk in onshape dealing with letters ?

I'd really like to be able to put letters on things : ) Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It could be that the some or all of the geometry of the "C" is too small to actually print. For example if the height of the character is less the layer height, it won't be printed because the slicer won't render amounts less than the layer height in the simplest case..

Do you still see the issue? The part looks fine, and Prusa Slicer reports nothing out of the ordinary. The letter is indeed small but it should still print.

hi, the height of the letter is 1.3mm which is several layers…and it does not print …the printer switches color and moves over to print…moves around for a very short period of time and then is done….with no C visible

thanks for checking in Prusa slicer….

    I'm baffled.

Ah, if you're printing in multiple filaments, maybe there's something going wrong mechanically when the printer switches? You can try with another part.

If it looks fine in the slicer preview then you need to look downstream for an issue. Printer mechanical issue with that color or something else.
