how do I set up the default to y-axis up?

    Short answer, you can't.

    From Onshape's AI Advisor:

    When importing parts from other CAD systems, you can set the Y-axis up orientation in two ways:

    1. During Import: When importing files, check the "Source is Y Axis Up" option to orient imported models with the Y axis up [6]. This is particularly useful for CAD files from systems where the Y axis is the default up axis, such as SOLIDWORKS and Autodesk Inventor [1].

    2. Post-Import Adjustment:If you've already imported a model, you can still change its orientation by opening the Import feature in the document's Part Studio and checking the "Source is Y Axis Up" option [6].Important

    Notes:- Onshape's default up axis is the Z axis [6]
