Placing multiple copies of a part within an assembly

paris_lovettparis_lovett Member Posts: 2

I have a fairly basic issue that I haven't been able to figure out from the support pages. I have an assembly where I have already laid out more than 40 mate connectors, and I want to place a copy of the same part on each of these connectors. I just don't know the "efficient" way to do it.

For what it's worth, here is a link to the document. It's a scale model of the biblical tabernacle, or mishkan. On the tab "mishkan base" I want to insert multiple copies of the "beam assembly" all along the periphery.

I have many other questions, and in fact have been wondering if there is some way I could pay someone for an occasional call to help me when I can't figure things out from the online resources. So if you know anyone, please message me. But one of my main questions is whether I am doing things the "right" way in terms of one tab for each part, and one tab for a sub-assembly, and then another tab for an assembly into which I insert the subassembly. It results in a lot of tabs.

Unfortunately you will not be able to insert a assembly into a part studio with any kind of feature. I highly recomend putting the base into a new assembly and inserting the assembly into the new assembly like this:

Then I would insert the assembly into this new assembly and use snap mode to connect the assembly to the mate connectors:

You can use patterns within an assembly. Or if you need specific placement, you could mark your guide part with unique cutouts that can be matched with the Replicate feature in the assembly. I'm not sure why it isn't orienting the replicated parts with the correct orientation of how the first one was referencing the faces, but you can dissolve the replicate and then edit the individual mates. Or instead of that you could just turn on snapping and drag parts over to the desired location and snap them into place.

Also, feel free to reach out if you need hourly consulting.😎
