Jaws surface for bench

Hi, I'm designing some sleeves to my table bench. I want to add some roughness to the contact surface, but I don't know how. See attached image for an example. Can somebody give me a clue where to look or how-to?

    The texture in that picture could be achieved by a small cut and a (computationally expensive) linear pattern.
