How to tilt/shear a circular pattern so that it describes a cone

spurtlespurtle Member Posts: 4

Hi, I'm fairly new to onshape and parametric CAD, but blown away by its power and versatility. I'm modelling for 3D printing and I've hit a knowledge gap that I haven't been able to resolve via the forums. I'd be grateful for any advice.

I have a pattern of cylinders that I created by sketching a circle, repeating with 'circular pattern' and then extruding. Think like the chambers of a revolver. So far, so good.

Now, I want to tilt or shear each cylinder around the centre of the circular pattern so that the extrude is along the surface of a cone. Think like tipi poles.

I can achieve this for a single circle/cylinder by building a construction line and using the sweep tool, but that won't work for my circular pattern, as I want the extrude to converge on a point around the centre of the circle.

Any clues? Apologies if I'm not using the right language to describe the problem: I'm always willing to learn. Thank you!

Exactly what I was looking for: thank you!

I didn't realise that there was a circular pattern for parts as well as for sketches.

Also learned something about the draft tool from your demo. Thanks for sharing.
