How do I apply a feature to an entire part?

Hello all,

I have searched around but could find anything definitive.

I would like to create the slots all over the part. I sketched one slot, extruded it, then used the linear pattern to replicate it across the face of each larger slot. But I am curious to know if there is a way to sketch one slot, then replicate it to each face on the entire part? And, not have to apply the sketch to each face, then use linear pattern.

I hope that makes sense.

Thanks.

You should build a slot and then pattern it. Creating the walls and then trying to pattern features to all of them is tricky.

Create the first vertical strip but leave it as a separate part (i.e. pick "new" instead of "add" in the extrude), then do the pattern of groove in that on strip and then linear pattern the strips (with the "add" option). Also draw half the part and mirror it at the end (or don't add the 3 strips and mirror them).

I have unsuccessfully tried to create this. The only way I can get the slot to cut out into the wall of the part is to use "remove" in the extrude. I also could not find a groove pattern…

The only way I can get the end result I want is to create each groove individually on each wall, then use linear pattern to equally space them the way they are in the screenshot. There has to be a way to draw just one, then apply it to the entire part. I could complete this part in this way, but I could imagine if I needed to create 1000 of them like this..

The end result should be like this. But, for each slot.

Thanks for any help, I am very new to onshape.

I tried to geet this to work unsuccessfully.

If I pick new, it will show the extruded lines, but will not take the material away. I have to use "remove".

There has to be a way to repeat the single feature without the need to sketch it onto every face that I want that feature. This part isn't bad, its only 7" long. But I could not imagine creating 1000 of these slots this way.

    Thaks for anyones help.

I this what you're looking for. To extend or retract to add more units. change the count in linear pattern.

    Hope this helps

    Configuration variables added to simplify.

Bladec, thank you! This is what I looking for.

Glen, not exactly. I was using linear pattern to extend the slot I created on the wall, But I had to create that sketch on every face that I wanted a slot. It would be too time consuming if this part we larger. Small parts, ok, but I would not want to use that method If I had a larger part to make.
