Updating students documents in a classroom assignment

I have set an assignment for my students and in the time since then there have been several updates to Onshape like cosmetic threads for example. I'd added an old doc to the assignment which also wasn't updated, and I didn't open it before I attached it to the assigmnet. I've set it so the students have to add to the document but for many of them it seems stuck in a version from the past. No external thread button for example.
I'm not sure what to do. The option of delete and restore dosnt seem to be a good idea here as I don't want to mess with students work or have it remove links to class assignments.

When out-of-date document is opened a notice offering an update should show up. Something like this :
It only shows up a small number of times. If you don't see it any longer in an out-of date document, please try making a copy of its workspace. It should show up in the copy document. If you are not seeing it, please share one of such docs with support and DM me with a link
The main problem is that it is a student piece of work in a classroom assignment and I'm not sure what I can do to it and it still be IN the classroom assignment. If I delete and restore it will it still be in the assignment, or will it be owned by the student outside of the assignment? I'm guessing making a copy will take it outside of the assignment as well. I'd usually just go ahead and try things, but I don't want to create a headache for my students (or me!)/ lose work etc.
