Extrusion on a preexisting file

I imported a file from Thingiverse of the Iphone 14 and wanted to make the holes on the sides for the buttons a bit larger. I tried to extrude cut a larger hole but it wont let me even though there are no faulty parts in the import. Ive done this before in the same manner of importing a file and extrude cutting parts of it but for some reason this one will not let up..

The reason is that the import as-is came in as surfaces. I added a couple of Boolean features directly after the import in order to create a solid. The Extrude 5 (remove) feature then works just fine.

Wow! I knew it had something to do with the surfaces but i wasn't even really sure what that meant or how to go about fixing it. Thank you so much!!
