Mates

kerry_hoferkerry_hofer Member Posts: 2

I have an actuator with a sliding cylinder that I am assembling to a pivot arm. When I use revolute mate at the end of the ram attachment to pivot arm and hit the checkmark I get

get 11 errors on previous revolute mates (which previously worked properly) and one sliding mate, and the error says mate overdefines assembly.

Not sure why this occurs?

without sharing the document or picture it seems there's a conflict in the degrees of freedome and is overconstrained. We are all looking forward to seeing the project.

It sounds overconstrained. You might even be running into a CAD tolerance issue where theoretically it should work, but because of floating point precision, mates that should work are slightly out of whack. In other words, the revolute mates all lock the part to a plane, but the planes might internally be 0.000000001m off from one another. If so, this is a limitation of all CAD. The solution (and good practice generally) is to stay away from this possibility by keeping things as unconstrained as you can while still getting your result. In your case it might look like turning one of your revolute mates to a cylindrical mate so the planar alignment is free.
