How to solve this sweep

simon_voldsimon_vold Member Posts: 3

hi all, hopefully there is anyone here that can help me solve this issue i have with sweeping a profile. I am not a professional, just a hobbyist.

I have tried to sweep the profile along a curve, and in the start it follows just fine, but due to the profile and curves, it does not look good at the other end. It's supposed to be a cover to snap in between two aluminium extrusions. Is ther any other trick to do this in a nice manner, or must i do someting with several extrusions and merge them all together in the end maybe?

'not look good' is subjective. what do you want it to look like. I did this with move face, 2 splits and a boolean.

It is a surprisingly odd shape for sure…

A loft with guide seems like a better match but it still doesn't really follow perfectly but by making it interfere intentionally and using a boolean to remove the excess it's at least closer, adding a profile in the middle might help.

This would probably be best done using surfacing techniques (might try again alter if I have time…)

Note that your really made your life way harder than it should with all the transforms and extrudes:

Gave it another shot to get something nicer looking:

It's been a while, but I created a FS that is better at keeping the profile oriented relative to a reference surface.

Started this last night and was doing fine until the lights went out. Seemed like a good time for bed.

This version is done with frames tool. Works out well.

Oops. The corner piece does not work as a frame since it would have to transition from 90 deg to flat. Cannot be a sweep. Better as a loft if you can figure out how to manufacture.
