Why can't I make this extrusion operation work?

in Drawings
living hinge - Copy | Part Studio 1
This seems like such a simple operation; I create a circular sketch on a plane that is the edge of a box, and wish to extrude the circle 10mm down into the box. OnShape won't let me do this unless I choose 'New'. I don't want 'New' - I want the circular post to be part of the box (part1). What am I doing wrong here? TIA
Frank

You can't have the circular post exactly tangent to the wall. It either needs a gap or some overlap.
