using an imported font

nathan_tennathan_ten Member Posts: 2

Hey, I was trying to 3D model something, and I have a font I want to use for it. Does anybody know if there is a way to let me just type it out, instead of moving each character into place? I already have each letter of the font in a sketch, which I imported using a DXF file.

    If this is just a "one off", importing the word already typed as a single DXF is probably easier…

    If you are looking for more flexibility it will be trickier, one thing that would help is to first create an "offset surface" of each character (creating composites if needed to keep the pieces together, for something like an "i"), also consider adding some reference mate connector to each one (I would recommend the "bottom-middle" point of each) to help later.

    You can then derive these "faces" into your part studio and they will be a lot easier to manipulate than imported sketch geometry, for example using "transform by mate connector" features. These flat faces can be extruded or whatever the same way a sketch region would.

    Getting the horizontal spacing is the tricky bit as each character has its own spacing requirement.
