How to recognize changes on released parts

Bernhard_HirtBernhard_Hirt Member Posts: 7 PRO

Hi,

is there a way to detect changes on released parts and drawing?

right know I know three ways to "compare" parts:

  1. compare the "main version" with a "release version" → right click on the version/release and "compare"
The disadvantage here is that you can only compare the whole part studio with the different version (makes it a bit confusiong for part studios with more parts in it) . And you have to know which is the right "release version" to compare with. I think this only works good when you have a seperate release version for every part.
And this kind of comparison doesn't work with drawings.
  2. prepare a release candidate
When preparing a release candidate there is a note if the geometrie of the part didn't changed over the revisions.
But I think only knows if the geometrie changed if you insert a new feature. I have changed the distance between two holes (e.g. Revision 1 = 10mm to Revision 2 = 20mm). Onshape still mentioned that the geometrie didn't changed!
Also this doesn't work for drawings.
  3. work with comments
The disadvantage here is you can easily forgett to comment a change in the part studio.
And you can't comment on a drawing.

Now I am interessted how other people/companys document and manage changes to released parts. Or is there any other way that onshape automatically detects changes to a released part.

I hope I have explained my problem clearly enough.
