Incorrect plane orientation

justBjustB Member Posts: 3

I'm trying to create a plane on a side of a pyramid, but it's not orienting itself correctly. I expect its base line to be parallel to the base line of the pyramid, of that make sense. Not to follow the line of the pyramid's edge. I know I can solve this by drawing a guide line from the mid-point of the base, but feels like a hack, and not a solution. I tried selecting points in different orders and different arrangement, but the plane is always "off axis". Am I missing anything here?

Hello. First, just in case you're not aware, a face of the pyramid can be used as a sketch plane; a separate plane is not needed. Also, an alternative to creating a plane is to use a mate connector as a 'plane' to create a sketch on. Mate connectors are very versatile/configurable; once placed, they can be reorientated in any direction. - Scotty

I don't know of a way to control what you want other than mate connectors. You can throw horizontal and vertical contraints out the window when the sketch plane is cocked like that.

In this case, instead of creating a plane, create a mate connector. The mate connector can be oriented as needed, E.G. by selecting the base edge as a reference. On the other hand, you could create a 3-point plane, and the first two points specified will be the plane's x-axis. At least that's what it does if I try it here. Problem solved.

rotate your pyramid to say 30 or 40 deg about the z axis and retry that @martin_kopplow

@MDesign Hmmmm …. in that case: Mate Connector!
