Automatic change part names + BOM in part studio
Hello,
I have a design with a lot of normalized parts from catalogs. And additionally it has quite complex configurations in it. The point of configurations is to change parts from catalogs (which are created in the same part studio). Main difference between these parts which are created are lengths and diameters.
My questions are:
- Is it possible to automatically change name when diameter / length change? I know I can change names in configuration properties, but I have 672 options of configurations and 66 parts. Some of these parts are the same, but I still have to make the configuration names for each one.
- How can I make a BOM from parts in Part Studio?
If I can change names without configurations it will be a game changer for me. Now I have to make a BOM and write down every parts symbol from catalog, which is very time consuming.
Best regards,
Maciek

Not 100% clear on the scope of what you are trying to do, but it seems to me your best bet would be to use a set of configured properties to parametrically build the part name. That way you don't need to create individual entries in the "configured properties" table. It does require that you use a "pattern" to the name using your different configuration inputs though.
Basically you build the name to use #Diameter and #Length properties within it.
There are some handy tools like https://cad.onshape.com/documents/861d68af1cee67efb9e4843d/v/b001b168bae37a8293028ae6/e/14349ef5e10190dab73add20

That make the process easier.
Basically if your part name is something like "Mypart"~#Diameter~" OD X "~#Length~"Long" i can adapt.
There is no BOM in a part studio…
One thing to note, is that if you have a certain configuration of a part in an assembly, if you edit the name of that part in the BOM, it will create a configured property entry in the part for the specific configuration. So an option could be to add the information on an "as-needed" basis, doing it from the assembly level.
Thanks! This "Property/Attribute (Pascoe)" feature is great.
