Variable studio variables driving a configured variable

Just though I would ask here first, does anyone know if it is intended or a known limitation that variables from a referenced variable studio cannot be used to drive another configured variable studio. This is what I am experiencing. I am setting up an assembly to reference a version of a variable studio that exists in another doc. I am also referencing a configured variable studio existing in the assemblies workspace. I then cannot included any variables from the first variable studio to drive the configuration inputs of the configured variable studio. When trying to type the variable into the input I am not getting any suggestion and if I type in the name and accept, that variable studio reference just goes dead.

AFAICT, this all works in part studios and assemblies - could you share a doc with a reproducible example?
Here is a doc link. The doc is shared with support. https://trebormanufacturing.onshape.com/documents/2bef606a7d70eb73f3f0c4d4/w/cfdee48f072e9a741f2a050f/e/5a64a80d0218aa804d6b1515?configuration=DEFINED_SHELF_DEPTH%3D0.057150000000000006%2Bmeter%3BFIXED_SHELF_HEIGHT%3D0.30797500000000005%2Bmeter%3BLEFT_SIDE_HINGES%3Dfalse%3BList_DIEEeqrVzAv8rQ%3DSWEEPOUT_NO_SPACER___NOTCHES_ON_SIDES%3BList_xyPgbYxKki3hYM%3DMIDDLE_REMOVABLE_SHELF%3BWIDTH%3D0.6096%2Bmeter&renderMode=0&rightPanel=configPanel&uiState=692f19ae2a1b5f781c2b727e
I can send you a video of what I am doing. I was going to include a gif here but my mp4 to gif converter is slowing the speed way down for some reason
