Assembly Imposters
Ever wanted your frames or pipes to properly count qty in the assembly BOM?
With this workflow, you don't have to worry about multi-part studio duplicates being duplicated in the BOM.
While this is a full tool, it is only a small sample of what
CADSharp is capable of automating for you.
Assembly Imposters is a sub-app from within the CADSharp Toolbox app.
Once you get the app, don't forget to grant access to the app within your user settings: https://cad.onshape.com/user/applications

How does it work?
Assembly Imposters is an (app + custom feature) combo.
The app searches the assembly for parts that were tagged with the feature, then the app replaces those parts with their original linked references.
- While inside a part studio, tag all the duplicate parts with the original part reference.
- You can do this using either the Assembly Imposters custom feature, Routing Curve+ feature, or your own custom feature. This works with any parts you want, not just frames and pipes; reach out to me or CADSharp if you need us to write a custom feature specifically for your workflow.
- Insert the parts into your assembly as you usually would.
- When ready, open up the Assembly Imposters sub app from within the CADSharp Toolbox app.
- Click "Insert reference parts", this will search for tagged parts and replace them with the original referenced part. Ensuring that the assembly BOM properly counts duplicate parts.
Note: Does not currently support rigid studio insertion.
