There's no "unlocking the ability".
You can use Derive, and the derived part(s) will be driven by the other part studio. You can also duplicate a part studio to make it independent.

And if you want it completely broken and not linked to the original studio and no history of the tree, you can download the part and import it into your other studio. This is not recommended. Usually Derive is the correct tool.

Thank you for the information and quick response! I was able to use the derive tool to add the part to another part studio but I am unable to use it for a remove extrusion, only with the add extrusion. Should I be able to do a remove extrusion after adding the part with the derive tool? If yes, any advice on finding that toutorial is greatly appreciated.
I'm not sure what your trying to add or remove. But the Learning Pathways are the most complete way to get efficient at Onshape. They will save you years of trial and error.

A renove extrusion or a boolean remove?
For extrusions, it might be necessary to create a sketch first, depending on the face you are trying to use, but independently of it being derived or created in another way.
I think he wants to copy paste thefull partstudio, including the feature tree, to another tab… If this is the case, you can just click the partstudio tab, copy to clipboard, click the + icon, and then paste tab.
…. or move the part studio to it's own doicument and duplicate that.
