Extrude on a tapered surface

david_dugasdavid_dugas Member Posts: 11

I am trying to make consistent depth splines on a tapered tube. I always end up with splines that are deeper on one end. How do I get the extrude to follow the tapered surface and not extrude perpendicular to sketch plane?

As it turns out that didnt quite work the way I needed. On my part, the walls of the splines need to be defined by a sketch that is on the end faces of the tube. The spline walls need to be a radial extension with a fixed angle between them. The spline peaks and valleys also change width as they go from one face to the other.

But your method sparked and idea that worked. I made a sketch on each face of the peak profiles with the desired angles and depths. Then I lofted them from face to face.

Glad something worked out. Got curious about your method so I copied the URL you posted and sent my browser there. Odd thing. New tab says Onshape but the page is completely blank; visually nothing there to suggest that it is a document. - Scotty
