Part Version in an Assembly

Getting a bit confused with versions etc. I have a set of models in a document called Standard Parts, which I have put Fasteners, Springs etc in. I have other document where I have to product components and assemblies in and when I want to insert a standard part into an assembly, I insert from other documents, select Standard Parts and get the file…usually though having to create a new version number. The problem I want to solve is that a spring in my assembly, now V53 of the Spring, in the Main version, I have created a part number (generated by the inbuilt Part Numbering system, but this part number is not appearing in the current version on the assembly BOM. How can I make the assembly use the Main version, hence, putting my part number int othe BOM…..these are not released yet….is that the problem…Should I release the Spring model which will lock down any property differences Im experiencing.

Think Ive sorted it….in the Spring, which has a variable length configuration property called Spring_Length, Ive set that to be excluded from the Configuration Properties, created a new version, opened the assembly and it asked to update the Spring….and the Part Number appears in the BOM Table….
