Workspace Units - Imperial and Metric

How do people work with varying units, ie G, Kg. I have several parts in an assembly, so pretty large and some very small, like M16 screws, so large parts need to be in Kg, whereas small parts need to be in Grams on the drawing….but everytime I change the units, then go to Release the assy drawing and components, it wont let me as it says several drawings have pending updates.
And Im not even going to ask about having some imperial components in a metric assembly, and vice versa……would have been nice if the original units set to model the original part stayed with it through its lifecycle.
