How would I go about emulating this effect?

I've looked into using the helix tool, but it doesn't play well with non-cylindrical bodies. If only I could wrap it around the contour of the part, but that doesn't seem to be a possibility.

What about a helix on a conical. Then trim off some of the outside using a spline or curved revolve.
Repeat for the other side and merge them.
Hard to tell from my other pic that it's not conical. This pic shows it's a curved outer profile.

@CADNurd That looks great! Can you share how you made it? Your document just shows an import and fillets.

After that it got very messy, with mirroring and transforms before finally mating the two mirrored halves together in an assembly and exporting it out as a parasolid. If I was doing it again I'd do it all in one go and not bother with the mirror. Definitely 100% done using Onshape though. No tricks.
