Electrical Drawings

What’s everyone using for electrical drawings alongside Onshape?

I’ve already got plenty of configurations and mechanical assemblies to manage in Onshape without adding electrical into the mix.

At the moment, every part in Onshape is assigned a unique random part number that feeds into our ERP system. I’d like to introduce an electrical design program that works alongside Onshape, but it also needs to generate its own unique random part numbers — with zero risk of overlapping the numbers generated in Onshape.

So I’m trying to figure out:

  • What electrical design software are people using in parallel with Onshape?
  • How are you handling part numbering between mechanical and electrical?
  • Are you separating number ranges, using prefixes, or syncing through a PDM/PLM system?
  • Has anyone successfully integrated electrical CAD with Onshape while keeping ERP part numbers clean and non-conflicting?

Would appreciate hearing how others are structuring this.
