Do we know why Onshape is often going down and what is being done to stop this?

I find Onshape is often going down. A few years ago, this wasn't the case. It was a lot more stable. Before, in a year, I might have experienced a service disruption 1-2 times which stopped me from working. Now, it seems like 4-6 times in a 90 day period. What's up with this? I'm noticing the gov server doesn't experience so many outages. What's up with that? I though the gov system was the same but more secure.

Can't comment personally on the frequency of outages and any increase. But with respect to gov, given that its a completely separate stack, it has completely unrelated uptime. It has far fewer users (since it's new) and other processes interacting with it. Which likely results in less opportunity for service-impacting issues.
@Kevin_Cowles It gets its updates on the same schedule as the standard service. I'm sort of wondering why most of Onshape's users have to go with out a service they are paying for while a portion of the system is functioning just fine. Maybe we could be upgraded for free to gov while the problem is fixed. ATM, I realize that would not be possible because of what you said but, I think its time Onshape figures something out for the rest of us when there system goes down. Actually being able to work, does start to make file based systems appealing again. And, prices these days with paying for API calls, makes them not really more expansive either.
Seems the Gov version runs on something called AWS GovCloud - where collaborating with anyone outside the US is not allowed.
