UI scripting

Is it possible to run a little script whenever someone enters something into a feature field or clicks to fill in a query field? For example, let's say I have a groove feature requiring a width and a depth. I'd like to make it so that changing the width for the first time automatically changes the depth to match. Any manual changes to the depth would then override that initial setting.
I could achieve this with a bunch of booleans or dropdowns enabling different modes in the UI, but it would be nice to have something simpler and more direct.
