Pattern feature along curved surface following tangent

I'm trying to pattern a feature along a curved surface while maintaining tangent alignment of the feature. 

It seems to me that this should be a simple thing to do, yet I've been trying without success for two hours now. 
Everything I tried (sketch pattern, linear feature pattern, circular pattern) failed for one reason or another. Mostly because the holes weren't properly aligned to the surface of the curve.

We've added some custom FeatureScript features with our recent release of FeatureScript. One of them is curve pattern, which sounds like exactly what you're looking for.

I've tried to do similar (placing holes on a curved pipe with curved feature pattern). The geometry fails in the curved sections.



Will likely make a separate bug report about this. Will also check @kevin_o_toole_1 's suggestion, but don't want to do FeatureScript for such.
